Committee Update

2023 “It’s a Wrap”

On behalf of our club committee

With 2023 coming to a close, I would like to thank the entire Park Orchards Football Netball Club Family for all your support throughout the 2023 season. It’s been a challenging year for the club; both on and off field … but not all success is not about wins and losses.

I would firstly like to take this opportunity to formally thank our major sponsors for their ongoing support. It is greatly appreciated. Firstly, to John Hoskins from Hoskins Premium Property. John’s passion and support for this great club shows no bounds, thank you John.

A special mention also to Mark Leonard from Mark Leonard Plumbing, thank you for your support both from a committee level and sponsorship level. Special people make football clubs, and Mark is one of them.

To our Silver sponsors: SS Group, Hiccon Constructions, Bendigo Bank, Strap it, Mazda Ringwood, Mitre 10 Doncaster, Spiteri Jaguar and Waugh’s Industrial Supplies … we say thanks!

To all of our Bronze sponsors, your support and generosity is the fabric of this great club and we also thank you.

Overall, the Park Orchards Football Netball Club had 159 players participate in local community based senior sport. Of that, we had an overall win/loss ratio of 48%.

The 2023 season provided some highs and lows. Overall, we had a participation rate of 129 footballers take to the field; and, of those, 45 played at least one senior men’s game. Proudly we had 69% of local home grown talent come through the junior ranks.

The importance of what the Park Orchards North Ringwood Parish Junior Football Club provides our senior club, cannot be understated when you see how many former Sharks Juniors make up our playing lists. This can also be extended to what the Park Orchards community provides as a whole to the club. For that, we are truly grateful.

To all of our team’s best and fairest winners, congratulations.

  • Matthew Haythorne- Senior Men’s
  • Jok Niop- Reserves
  • Kristen Bertoldi- Senior Women’s
  • Alex Macrokanis- Under 19’s
  • Gabby Linton- Women’s Netball Black
  • Rachel Harnetty- Women’s Netball Red
  • Sienna Bett- Women’s Netball White

I would like to acknowledge Alex Macrokanis and Jorja Livingstone for their runners up in the league best and fairest.

Congratulations to 3 senior Sharks women making the Women’s 2023 team of the year:

  • Alannah Boell
  • Kristen Bertoldi
  • Jorja Livingstone

Also, a special mention to Cooper Trembath for his Eastern Ranges appearances, as well as his AFL pre-season draft experience and combine participation.

I would also like to acknowledge Josh Tovey and Riley White for their selection to play for the Eastern Ranges.

A big thanks to our netballers for a great and exciting season. We can’t wait to see you all at Thursday night dinners in 2024!

Special mentions to;

  • Liv Gryzson from Black finished in the top 5 of the Chandler medal for Div 4 netball competition.
  • Gabby Linton from Black made the Chisholm squad for the regional netball championship.Gabby has also made the Hawks VNL side for their U19 competition for 2024.

The senior men’s team has already started preseason under the scrutiny of our new senior coach, Paris Harvie, and the women’s team is not far away from starting under the guidance of Simon McAuliffe. With the possible expansion of our netball teams from 3 to 5 in 2024, exciting times are ahead for the entire club next season!

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to our life members, foundation members, dedicated supporters and membership base. Your unwavering loyalty and passion for the game have been the driving force behind our success over the years. Your presence in the stands, cheering our numerous teams on, not only lifted their spirits but has also inspired them to give their best on the field. We recognize and appreciate the invaluable role you play in our football family and community.

To all the volunteers that help the club week in and out, from the early Saturday morning set up to the late Saturday afternoon pack up, we cannot thank you enough.

Last and no means least, we held our AGM on the 27th of November, from that, I present to you our Park Orchards Football Netball Club committee for 2024:

We thank the current and previous committees who have put up their hand to serve the club to make a better football and netball community.

Our hearts go out to Brendan and the entire Hickey family for their recent tragic loss of Teresa. We are all thinking of you.

We also remember a friend to many and true Club person and Domenarian member, Mark Lowther, who passed away earlier in the year. Always part of the fabric of our Club.

On behalf of the committee, have a very merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

Can’t wait to see you all in 2024!

Go Sharks!

President
